We’ve got a lot to thank Bill Gates, Steve Jobs and the computing world’s other leaders for. They’re responsible for some of the greatest leaps forward in communications and business in the last 30 years-and many of the biggest innovations in design, too.
Without them, our industry wouldn’t be what it is today, and many of the world’s top designers wouldn’t have a platform for their work.
However, there is one reason to resent these giants: their choice of fonts. In releasing mega-popular suites and catering to a broad, design-illiterate audience, leading business applications such as Microsoft Word shocked us with the overused fonts that they include standard in their latest releases.
This isn’t a riff on the world’s worst fonts, but rather an invitation for amateur designers and business users to stop abusing some of the world’s best fonts.
Nothing is particularly wrong with Impact or Comic Sans as fonts per se, but there is a huge deal wrong with using them in every situation. The 10 fonts below are overused and patently annoying, and we give 10 good reasons to stop using all of them.

Know what happens when you search Google for “tentacle pot pie”? Not much.* Let’s fix that! I created this tentacle pot pie for Babble using store bought dough. Easy and a wee bit creepy. Even if you’re not up for tentacles I found this chicken pot pie from Simply Recipes to be most delicious. Babble has also posted a short interview with me, thanks!

In 1938, Alex Steinweiss of Columbia Records invented the concept of album covers and cover art, replacing the plain covers used before. Over time, cover art became an important part of the music industry, both as cultural icons and as marketing tools. Since then, cover art has evolved with the advancement of technology. The format has changed as well. We no longer use 12” LPs. Today, cover art is designed mainly for CD covers and digital downloads. In this article we will feature some inspiring examples of typography in album covers from the 1960’s until today.

inimal web design has become a big trend in 2010. You won’t find large pictures or glossy buttons in minimal designs, but fonts are some of those rare accents they can have. Carefully chosen fonts can really enhance your design. Usually minimal web designs tend to have clean, light fonts, but not always it’s the best solution. You can, instead, pick a nice bold font to give your design a niche. That’s not true that you have to pay for the good-looking fonts.
There are plenty of free, great looking fonts around the web. In this article you’re going to find 40 clean, crisp and, of course, free fonts for your minimal web design.

A few new free fonts to choose from is always useful right? Today I looked around at the large creative community site behance.net. It is a great place to seek out inspiration and I also found that it is quite a treasure for finding interesting free fonts. What I like about the font you can find here is the awesome examples the designers have created to showcase their fonts. This alone is worth a visit! In this article I give you an overview of some of the fonts I found interesting, but there are certainly a lot more on behance.net ready to be downloaded.
