Designing and critiquing logos for web-based companies and startups is a pursuit of endless fascination for many of us. Over the years, we’ve seen enough startups come and go (and rebrand and merge) to fill a volume with how and how not to develop and execute a logo for a web company.

We’ve also picked up some knowledge about trends in this field. Some of the trends are good; others, regrettable. Others still are simply overused, which is the saddest scenario of them all. We hate to see a good design trick or typeface grow hackneyed over the course of a few months, but it happens all the time, unfortunately.

In this article, we’ve identified 11 trends in web company logo design. Hopefully, you’ll see a few here that apply to the startups and web apps we write about every day. And of course, we’ve included some handy illustrations as a sort of field guide to the logos of the web.

I use web galleries all the time when I’m stuck for an idea. Its not copying, its just design inspiration, and there are so many juicy sites out there that showcase great designs. I have put together a nice tidy list of 20 sites I visit the most to get design inspiration when I’m clueless for ideas. Included in the compilation are a mixture of galleries that showcase beautiful websites, logos, illustrations, fonts and vectors.

In my opinion logo design domain is the most spread after that website design. Logo designs are very important for a company because they represent the business image. Logos must reflect very well what company does, services that provides and the image the business they want to represent… The entire company brief should be reflected in one single image named logo. A lot of people that have a company or a business don’t know about the logo importance and they say that it’s a waste of money. A few new free fonts to choose from is always useful right? Today I looked around at the large creative community site behance.net. It is a great place to seek out inspiration and I also found that it is quite a treasure for finding interesting free fonts. What I like about the font you can find here is the awesome examples the designers have created to showcase their fonts. This alone is worth a visit! In this article I give you an overview of some of the fonts I found interesting, but there are certainly a lot more on behance.net ready to be downloaded.

Black will absorb and dilute all colors that surround it, so your secondary color needs to be well chosen and though out. It works well with bright shades of reds, blues, and greens and can make luminous and vibrant colors really really stand out. As for the use of black with dark colors, that’s a no-no. It can work, but if the colors are similar they will merge together. Black is not used as the main color very often in text content rich web sites. It can be used and is very popular by design related personal portfolios and photography sites, as you will see below. It allows the artwork to take center stage and be the primary focus of the viewer. Of course, the use of black within web design is not only limited to personal portfolios or design agencies, it is used across the full spectrum of all web design styles, as you will see from the beautiful web designs below. Black really is beautiful!.
