BBC history, on writing, in typography

In a couple of recent threads, I’ve mentioned the excellent new BBC Radio 4 series A history of the world in 100 objects, presented by the director of the British Museum: 15 minutes each weekday on an object from the museum’s collection illustrating the development of human history. It’s been fascinating, and today we hit the first writing: illustrated by a cuneiform tablet regarding the workers’ daily beer ration.
The visual identity for the series is also involves some clever typography:
